Waxing - Do's and Dont's

Avoid the sun immediately after waxing and wear sun screen; recently waxed areas are prone to hyperpigmentation (permanent darkening of the skin) if exposed to the sun or solarium. Avoid saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and other heated sources for at least 48 hours.

Avoid heavy exercise for at least 24 hours after waxing.

Do not use exfoliating products (AHAs, scrubs, etc) and loofahs for at least 24 hours after waxing as they might further irritate your skin.

Avoid tight clothing after waxing, especially in the waxed areas. Tight clothing may result in irritation and ingrown hairs.

Regular twice to three times per week exfoliation is helpful to remove dead skin so your hairs can get out above the surface of the pores and not become ingrown.

No hot baths, hot showers or sexual activity for 10 hours after a Brazilian. While your pores are open, they are vulnerable to irritation by the extreme temperatures and infection by bacteria.

Moisturise with after every shower and use an ingrown solution to minimise in grown hairs.

Routine waxing helps the skin get accustomed to the procedure and may minimize irritation.

Spray Tanning - Do's and Dont's

It is important that you maintain your skin to prolong your tan.

Clothing – Ensure the tan is dry prior to you getting dressed. Loose fitting clothing should also be worn for the next 6 to 8 hours. Tight clothing that rubs on the skin will cause uneven tanning.

Showering – Wait a minimum of 6 to 8 hours before showering. Or better yet, wait until the next day, enabling maximum development time. The tan will still continue to develop slightly over the next 24 hours. Wash with SLS free body wash – we recommend our "Refresh". Wash just using your hand with gel. After washing, pat body dry – do not rub.

Activities – You should not swim, perspire or exercise until after your post-tan shower.

Moisturise – Keep the skin well moisturised. You are trying to stop the skin from naturally flaking off, thereby prolonging the tan. Twice daily, you should use an effective body moisturiser – we recommend our "Tender Care Hand & Body Lotion or Barrier Cream". The tan on the face and hands will fade quicker due to regular cleansing. However, we recommend "Great Tan" to top up the tan in these areas.

Exfoliation – Exfoliate only towards the end of the life of the tan, once tan has completely faded, or just prior to being re-tanned. We recommend our “Refresh” and exfoliating gloves for this purpose. Apply to dry skin and massage into the skin in a circular motion. Rinse. This should remove the last of the tan.

A tip for regular tanners who have a tan build-up, use a baking soda and water (or lemon juice) paste and apply this to the skin. Take a long soaking bath (20 to 30 minutes – the longer the better), exfoliating lightly. Dry briskly with a towel, rubbing any stubborn areas as required.

Things to Avoid

Pools and Spas – Chlorine and salt water pools and spas may assist with fading of the tan if submersed for lengthy periods. Try quick dips for a few minutes instead. (Chlorine acts like a bleaching agent on the skin)

Exercise – If client exercises and sweats heavily, their tan can fade faster.

Long/Hot Baths – Once again do not soak.

Soaps – Do not use soaps containing SLS (Sodium Laurel Sulphate), sorbolene, and any bar soaps.

Skin Care – Do not use any products that renew or refresh skin such as Alpha Hydroxy or Beta Hydroxy Acid; Retin-A; toners containing alcohols or witch hazel; some make-up removal products; peel off masks; facial strips, exfoliating scrubs and hair retarding sprays or creams.
